TEBUCONAZOLE TECHNICAL

Type: Fungicide (Systemic, Broad-Spectrum)

Chemical Category

  • Type: Fungicide (Systemic, Broad-Spectrum)
  • Chemical Class: Triazole (Demethylation Inhibitor – DMI)
  • Chemical Formula: C₁₆H₂₂ClN₃O
  • CAS Number: 107534-96-3
  • IUPAC Name: (RS)-1-p-chlorophenyl-4,4-dimethyl-3-(1H-1,2,4-triazol-1-ylmethyl)pentan-3-ol

Mode of Action

  • Tebuconazole inhibits ergosterol biosynthesis, a key component of fungal cell membranes.
  • The mode of action is through inhibition of the enzyme C14-demethylase, part of the cytochrome P450
  • This leads to disruption of membrane formation, resulting in growth inhibition and death of fungal cells.
  • Acts as a protectant, curative, and eradicant fungicide.
  • Systemic in nature — absorbed through leaves, stems, and roots and translocated throughout the plant.

Applications

Used to control a broad spectrum of fungal diseases in major crops:

  • Cereals: Rusts, smuts, and leaf spots
  • Oilseeds (Soybean, Groundnut, Mustard): Leaf spots, powdery mildew
  • Fruits: Apple scab, grape powdery mildew, banana leaf spot
  • Vegetables: Early and late blight, anthracnose, leaf spot diseases
  • Rice: Sheath blight, brown leaf spot
  • Others: Coffee rust, sugar beet leaf spot, and ornamentals

Main Uses

  • As an active ingredient in various fungicidal formulations, such as:
  • Emulsifiable Concentrate (EC)
  • Suspension Concentrate (SC)
  • Wettable Powder (WP)
  • Provides long-lasting protection and curative effects against a wide range of fungal pathogens.
  • Commonly used in seed treatment formulations to prevent seed-borne fungal infections.

Storage and Stability

  • Store in a cool, dry, and well-ventilated place, away from direct sunlight and sources of ignition.
  • Keep containers tightly closed to prevent contamination and moisture ingress.
  • Shelf Life: Minimum 2 years under recommended storage conditions.
  • Stability: Stable under normal ambient conditions; decomposes when exposed to strong heat or light for extended periods.
