Pretilachlor

Type : Herbicide

Chemical Category

  • Type: Herbicide (weed killer)
  • Chemical group: Chloroacetamide family
  • Formula: C₁₇H₂₆ClNO₂

Mode of Action

  • Pretilachlor inhibits cell division and growth in germinating weed seeds.
  • It prevents shoot and root development, so weeds die before emerging from the soil.

Application

  • Usually applied as:
  • Pretilachlor 50% EC (Emulsifiable Concentrate)
  • Mixed with water and sprayed on the soil surface after transplanting.
  • Often used with safeners like Fenclorim to protect the rice crop.

Weeds Controlled

  • Examples include:
  • Echinochloa crus-galli (Barnyard grass)
  • Cyperus difformis (Small flower umbrella sedge)
  • Fimbristylis miliacea
  • Monochoria vaginalis

Pretilachlor Technical — Overview

  • Chemical Name: 2-Chloro-2′,6′-diethyl-N-(2-propoxyethyl)acetanilide
  • CAS No.: 51218-49-6
  • Technical Grade Purity: ≥ 95% (usually 95–98%)
  • Form: Clear to pale yellow liquid
  • Type: Selective pre-emergence herbicide (Chloroacetamide family)

Main Uses of Pretilachlor Technical

  • Intermediate for producing Pretilachlor formulations, such as:
  • Pretilachlor 50% EC
  • Pretilachlor 37% EW
  • Used as an active ingredient (AI) in the formulation industry for agricultural herbicides.
  • Controls annual grasses, sedges, and broad-leaved weeds in paddy (rice) cultivation.

Storage & Stability

  • Store in cool, dry, well-ventilated
  • Keep away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Use HDPE or lined metal drums.
  • Shelf life (technical grade): ~2 years if stored properly.
